ASSESSMENT

A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation may be needed to diagnose emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders. An evaluation of a child, adolescent, or adult is made based on behaviors present and in relation to physical, genetic, environmental, social, cognitive (thinking), emotional, and educational parts that may be affected as a result of these behaviors. This process often involves gathering input from family members, teachers, or caregivers, as well as conducting psychological tests or assessments when necessary.

EATING DISORDERS

Most researchers believe that eating disorders are caused by a combination of psychological, genetic, biological, and social factors. At their root, eating disorders are not really about body image or eating habits. Rather, they are symptoms of underlying issues—most often depression, trauma, or anxiety. Controlling food intake becomes a form of self-medication—a way to manage the pain and discomfort and feel a sense of control.

TRAUMA

Trauma therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and heal from the psychological and emotional impact of traumatic experiences. Trauma can stem from a wide range of events, including abuse, accidents, violence, war, natural disasters, loss, or any situation that overwhelms a person's ability to cope. Trauma therapy focuses on addressing both the immediate symptoms and the long-term effects of trauma, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), dissociation, and emotional dysregulation. The therapist plays a vital role in trauma therapy by creating a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals feel comfortable exploring painful emotions. The therapist guides the individual through the healing process, tailoring interventions to meet the unique needs of each client. Trust, empathy, and collaboration are essential components of an effective therapeutic relationship.

MOOD DISORDERS

Mood disorder therapy focuses on helping individuals manage and overcome the emotional and psychological challenges caused by mood disorders. Mood disorders encompass a range of conditions, including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder), and cyclothymia. These disorders significantly impact mood, energy levels, thinking, and daily functioning, often leading to feelings of hopelessness, irritability, and emotional instability.

Therapy for mood disorders aims to reduce the intensity and frequency of symptoms, improve coping mechanisms, and support long-term emotional stability. Treatment plans are typically tailored to each individual and may involve different therapeutic approaches, lifestyle changes, and, when necessary, medication.

ANXIETY

Anxiety therapy is designed to help individuals manage and overcome the overwhelming fear, worry, and tension associated with anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Therapy focuses on identifying the root causes of anxiety, challenging irrational thoughts, and developing coping strategies to reduce anxiety's impact on daily life. The goal of anxiety therapy is not just to reduce anxiety symptoms but to help individuals build resilience, manage stress, and regain control over their thoughts and emotions.
